In February 2014, I signed books at Madison’s Barnes and Noble, visited the wonderful students at Elm Lawn Elementary and EAGLE School, and did a great panel with MG authors Gayle Rosengren and Wendy McClure at Boswell Books in Milwaukee. Here’s a post about my Wisconsin whirlwind.

Kids Author Carnival 2014

On May 31, 2014, 37 fantastic kid-lit authors spent an evening reading, writing, signing, and hanging out with about 200 happy readers! Find out more about the carnival here.

ALA Annual in Las Vegas

I was part of the Class of 2K14‘s MG vs. YA Trivia Showdown, hosted by Jay Asher and Josephine Angelini, on the PopTop Stage. I also signed in the Sourcebooks booth. Check out some photos here!

I visited Monroe Street’s wonderful indie, Mystery to Me, on July 2nd.

Texas Tour!

I visited the Fort Worth library for the Worth Reading Author Roundup on August 16, and I was part of a great discussion with Tara Dairman, Kari Anne Holt, and Polly Holyoke at Barnes & Noble (Fort Worth: Hulen Center) on August 17.

Then on August 18, I stopped by The Book Spot for a fun-filled MG panel with Tara Dairman, Kari Anne Holt, Nikki Loftin, and Jennifer Ziegler. There was trivia and a unicorn (cake). Check out the highlights here!

Voracious Reader Panel

On October 20, I was part of a fun MG author panel at the Voracious Reader in Larchmont, NY, with Tara Dairman, Lauren Magaziner, Laura Marx Fitzgerald, Michelle Schusterman.

New York Society Library Workshop

I led a workshop for young writers at the New York Society Library in October. We discussed researching and writing about fascinating people and places in history, played some writing games, and had a lot of fun. Here’s a recap.

Wisconsin Library Conference 2014

Gayle Rosengren (WHAT THE MOON SAID) and I presented “Making It Real,” a discussion of how MG historical fiction can help educators and parents bring history to life as they prepare students to meet Common Core standards. Check out the conference website for some of our handouts.

Indies First!

On Small Business Saturday, November 29th, I helped out at my favorite indie bookstore, Books of Wonder. It was so much fun to be bookseller for a day–I even got to make an official employee recommendation!

Kids Author Carnival 2015

On May 30, thirty-six fantastic kid-lit authors read to, wrote with, and played with many happy readers at the beautiful Jefferson Market branch of the NYPL. Find out more about the annual carnival here.

AASL 2015

presented and signed at AASL’s national conference in Columbus, Ohio, with my friend and fellow MG author Gayle Rosengren. In “Making It Real: Bringing History to Life Through Fiction,” we suggested creative ways for school librarians to bring history to life as they prepare students to meet educational standards.

I attended this amazing literacy event on November 5.

SCBWI Metro NY Writers Day

I spoke about writing historical fiction and moderated an agent/editor panel (with Bess Cozby, T. S. Ferguson, and Carrie Pestritto) at this half-day event at Chelsea Studios in NYC–and listened to Laurie Halse Anderson’s wise and funny and inspiring career talk!
