What’s Up Wednesday, 10/9

WUWAutumn

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme that helps readers and writers touch base with blog friends. If you’d like to join in, you can find the link widget on Jaime’s and Erin’s blog posts. I love this idea because it gives a structured, easy way for me to keep up with blogging. Also, the buttons are cute. Thanks for the idea, Jaime and Erin!

What I’m Reading
I’m still reading The Weird Sisters. I’m kind of lingering in the story, which is nice. I tend to read quickly, and sometimes I forget how satisfying it can be to take more time with a book.

What I’m Writing
When Audrey Met Alice odds and ends, which are writing-related.  I’ve come to the realization that some of my writing time, going forward, needs to be allotted to the business-y side of publishing. And that’s okay! Otherwise, I’m still on a bit of a writing break. I did open a planning document on Sunday night and had fun brainstorming for an old new idea. I’m toying with the idea of doing a NaNo-inspired November writing marathon.

What Inspires Me Right Now
I’m going to repeat last week’s inspiration: great weather and great books. I’ll also add the camaraderie and kindness in the kid lit writing and publishing community (see below).

What Else I’ve Been Up To
Revealing this new blog, and revealing the cover for When Audrey Met Alice! It was so fun to get to share the cover on Monday, and I am really grateful for the enthusiastic responses to it. (Mundie Kids is helping me give away an ARC, if you’d like to enter to win it!)

IRL: Making progress toward winning the title of Clumsiest Ever–I fractured my toe. By walking into my bathtub. But at least it’s an excuse to sit around and read, right?

So what have you been up to lately?

  1. I second the great weather! I think I may spend my November in a reading marathon 🙂

  2. Oh, I have fractured a couple of toes a couple of times, all due to my own clumsiness. So painful! I love your inspiration for this week. Good books are often my inspiration too. And congrats again on your adorable cover — I love it so much, Rebecca!

  3. Jaime Morrow says:

Boo about fracturing your toe, but YAY about the new site/blog and the lovely cover for your book! I’m sure waiting to see the cover is a stressful thing, but what a relief that it’s so awesome. 🙂 Have a great week, Rebecca!

  4. Rebecca, I love your blog/book cover/general attitude! I agree 100% about the amazingness that is the Kidlit writing community. I too have been doing a bit of basking in my reading, as I’ve been on the same book now for something like three weeks and I also have just loved it. Congrats again on the cover reveal!

  5. Miss Cole says:

Love the new website. Such lovely colours and a cute design.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the toe but yes, definitely a perfect sit-down-and-read excuse 😉

    Have a lovely week!

  6. Rachael says:

Definitely agree on the great weather! I’m sitting at my desk in front of the open window right now and enjoying every second of it. Not too much longer and it’ll be snowing.

A November writing marathon sounds fantastic. Have a great week!

  7. Erin Funk says:

Your new site and the cover of your book are both so pretty! You must be so excited! Love them both (especially the cat)!

I get what you mean about wanting to linger in a story. If a book can get me to linger then that’s a sign it’s a good one.

Sorry to hear about your injured toe. That’s terrible, but great that you’re using it as an excuse to get more reading done. Sounds like good medicine! Enjoy your week!

  8. So sorry to hear about your toe! Ouch!

So much excitement happening for you, writing wise. Love the new site and your cover!!

  9. Jossie Marie Solheim says:

Oh no fractured toes that’s no fun. I hope they are feeling better soon. 🙂

  10. Oh man, hope your toe feels better! I posted over on the cover reveal how much I love the cover (although the shoes were cute too.) I can’t wait to read it and share it with students (I just today had a conversation with my colleagues in the history dept. about the value of historical fiction in teaching history…)

  11. I’m glad you mentioned the giveaway over on Mundie Kids. I completely forgot about it, and I definitely want to enter. 🙂 I love that the cover has cute illustrations, just like your new site. I’m not sure if that was planned, but it seems like a win! 🙂

    Have a great week!

  12. Lori Lee says:

I seriously love the new blog design. The drawings are so fantastic 🙂

  13. Alison Miller says:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cover!!! And I love the tagline too. Congratulations, again – on all the things! And yes for inspiring weather. It’s been raining here a lot lately, but that’s perfect writing weather for me. Have a great week!
