What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme that helps readers and writers touch base with blog friends. You can find the link widget (and cute buttons!) on Jaime’s and Erin’s blog posts.

What I’m Reading
I finished Hostage Three, which was smart, tense, and moving, and now I’m finally reading Tiger Lily. I’ve always been into the Peter Pan story, and I love this retelling so far. The writing is captivating, miss-your-subway-stop good.

What I’m Writing
I haven’t gotten as much revising done as I’d hoped this week, mostly because I’ve been working hard on some publicity-related writing, like interviews and guest posts. It’s making me look at my story in different ways, and that’s kind of fun. I think I’m caught up for now, so I hope to get back to revising over the long weekend.

What Inspires Me Right Now

Last week, the first two books in my friend Michelle’s debut series, I Heart Band, pubbed. It’s so exciting to think about readers discovering her delightful characters! A group of friends met up the night before her pub date for wine and a book-cover cake. It was a great way to kick off a new year of writing.

What Else I’ve Been Up To
Yeah, about that “lots of yoga” from last week . . . I was a little too much of a weekend warrior this past one, and long story short, I did something very bad to my hip while in class. It’s never good when your body makes Rice Krispie noises (Snap! Crackle! POP!) while you’re moving out of a pose. So I’m heading to the doctor today to figure out exactly what I did. It’s a bummer, but hopefully I’ll be back to bending soon. And in the meantime, I will be eating my first-ever homemade doughnuts. photo-1

Homemade = healthy, right? Right.

So what have you been up to lately?

I am officially hungry now, and the only thing that will satisfy my stomach is a homemade donut. Yum! When I lived in Brooklyn we would go to the farmers market in Prospect Park and get apple cinnamon doughnuts almost weekly.

I love that interviews and the like are making you see your story differently, and a good differently! Awesome.

    • Rebecca

      Apple cinnamon doughnuts, mmmmmmmmmm!

  2. Jaime Morrow

Oh goodness, those doughnuts look really, really good. You temptress you. 😉 That’s crummy about your hip. I hope it’s something minor and goes away quickly! As for TIGER LILY, I have it sitting on my shelf and have had for WAY too long now. I’ve heard only good things about it, so that’s a good thing. I’m kind of on a SF/F kick these days, so it might have to wait a bit longer. Have a great week, Rebecca!

    • Rebecca

TIGER LILY is really good, Jaime! I think you’d enjoy it. 🙂

  3. kate scott

I hope your hip is okay! Good luck with all your pre-release publisity stuff. Have a wonderful week!

    • Rebecca

      Same to you, Kate!

  4. Katy Upperman

Mmmm… Donuts! Sorry about your hip. Sounds painful. I hope the doctor is able to help you sort it out. Oh, and TIGER LILY! I loved that book. So beautiful. Enjoy!

    • Rebecca

I think it was one of your posts about TIGER LILY that made me buy it, Katy! And I love it so far. Thanks!

I’m so excited because I get to meet Michelle at our agency retreat in less than four weeks (at least I think she’s going). So fun!

    • Rebecca

Super fun! And Michelle is AWESOME.

  6. Carrie-Anne

I’ve never tried making my own doughnuts before, since it seems so time-consuming. There’s a recipe in The Little House Cookbook, though I don’t know if that book is still in print.

    • Rebecca

They were surprisingly simple! I baked these ones. I’ll have to look for that cookbook!

  7. Miss Cole

Mmmm, doughnuts. Yum! And that cake looks spectacular too. What a great way to celebrate.

Ouch, hope the doctor can sort you out quickly ^_^

    Have a great week.

    • Rebecca

      You, too!

Those donuts look incredible! We have pans for baking them in the oven (not as tasty as deep frying, but that’s my idea of healthy) and I should really make some this weekend. That’s terrible about your hip! I hope it’s nothing too serious and that you’re back to normal soon. In the meantime, take it easy and enjoy those donuts! 🙂

    • Rebecca

I am enjoying them. Maybe a little too much!

  9. Sarah Chafin

    Those donuts look divine!

    • Rebecca

      Thanks!

  10. Jennifer Pickrell

I’m pretty much convinced anything homemade is healthy, so YES 🙂

Oh no to your hip, hope it’s nothing bad!

  11. prerna pickett

oh no, I hope you recover from your hip injury soon! I’ve always had issues with my hip, which only got worse after having kids. Good luck with revisions 🙂

  12. Kim

I can tell you reading this post has made me hungry, even though I just ate dinner. Wine, book cake, and homemade donuts? YUM.

  13. Liz Parker

Oh no! Sorry about your yoga popping. I head a similar experience while stretching my neck on Friday, but mine’s finally starting to feel better. Hope you feel better soon!

  14. Amy

Homemade is always healthy. 😉 ha! I hope your hip is okay. Have a great weekend!

  15. Colin

Everybody knows that homemade *anything* is always better for you. In fact, I’m sure homemade doughnuts are right up there with spinach and broccoli. 🙂 Seriously, though, they look yummy. I don’t know many people who make their own doughnuts. It’s like making doughnuts is a secret art that only specially trained pastry chefs, and those geniuses at Krispy Kreme, know about. So I’m impressed. 🙂

I hope you recover from your bone-crunching yoga experience (what were you doing? it sounds painful. yoga sounds painful period…). Have a truly awesome week, Rebecca!

  16. Ghenet Myrthil

Oh no – I’m sorry you hurt yourself! I feel your pain (says the girl who fell on her ankle in the rain last weekend – ouch!) Hope you heal soon.

I loved seeing tweets of your celebration with Michelle. That cake was ADORABLE! You’re up next! Are you doing anything fun to celebrate your debut?
